Chantel [b.1994] finds inspiration in archived images, various film stills, connecting through changing environments, and by means of individuals and ancestors. Motivated by her matriarchal lineage, Chantel is heavily influenced by Black women. Her work extracts snapshots of Black life through a variety of styles using compiled imagery and prose. She creates art in hopes of resurfacing joyful lost memories in others.

Originating from the Toronto area in Canada, Chantel moved to Brooklyn, New York in late 2019. Despite the negative impact of a global pandemic, Chantel took time to immerse herself in her creative comforts. Since then, Chantel’s work has been part of multiple group shows leading to her first solo show in Los Angeles in November 2021.

Chantel’s art practice entails the use of found and archived photographs, acrylic, notions, fabric, and other meaningful materials.
